Frequently Asked Questions

How do I download script models?

Open the app, tap the settings icon in the top-right corner, and select "OCR Languages." Tap the download button next to any script you want to use. Models are small (1-4 MB each) and only need to be downloaded once.

Why is the scanned text inaccurate?

• Ensure the text is printed (handwriting is not supported)
• Hold your camera steady with good lighting
• Avoid glare and shadows on the text
• Make sure the correct source script is selected

Does Akshar need the internet?

Only for the initial download of script models. After that, scanning and transliteration work completely offline.

Is my data private?

Yes. All processing happens on your device. No images or text are sent to any server. Read our Privacy Policy for details.

Which scripts are supported?

Devanagari, Bengali, Gurmukhi, Gujarati, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Sinhala, and Latin/English.
